On Wednesday, Oct. 16, the varsity field hockey team triumphed over Austin Preparatory School with a 3-0 victory, securing a third consecutive win within their season.

With the advent of the spring season, many of Big Red’s teams — crew, lacrosse, softball, baseball, golf, and tennis — kicked off their season with exciting preseason trips. From early mornings of training to afternoon trips at Universal Studios, preseason aimed to prepare teams for their upcoming seasons both by improving their practical skills and strengthening team dynamics.

As students arrive on campus for their final term of the year, the campus has changed remarkably since the winter term: green grassy lawns, all the snow disappearing from the roofs, and the sun setting after 5 p.m. Exonians come into the spring term with new academic goals, fresh study schedules, and a profound inspiration to excel. While the flowers haven’t yet bloomed and the weather is still in the 40s, students reflect on their fifteen-day spring break and the transition to the start of the new term.

On Wednesday, Jan. 15, the boys’ varsity squash team played a tough match at home against St. Paul’s, ultimately losing to their strong team with a score of 4-3.

Down the hall of the Academy Building, a classroom’s door remains wide open. Inside, maps and posters adorn the walls. “Keep Your Mind Open” hangs above a cork board, and each sign, with its own flare of color and personality, brightens up the room. As always, in the center of the room sits a classic Harkness table. At the table sits a smiling Jack Gronau, Instructor in History, open to giving advice to his students, passionately discussing his current and future courses, and, of course, wearing an immaculate outfit.

Even with this past week of exhausting midterms, spreading sickness, and having to combat the miserably cold weather, our boys’ varsity ice hockey team still managed to tie their skates and get out on the ice to practice and compete.

Exeter’s Got Talent, Trivia Night, the Regional Dance. You may have heard upper Andrew Gould reminding people in the hallways to attend any of these events. Over the winter term, the Student Council Recreation Committee has been organizing different events, incentivizing people to go by offering dorm points as a prize.

On Wednesday, Oct. 23, the girls’ varsity soccer team faced Dexter Southfield, a tough opponent who has won most of its games thus far.

On Friday, Oct. 18th, Exeter’s a cappella groups put on a showcase performance during Family Weekend. Despite having little time to prepare, the concert attracted a large crowd and ended up being a great success.
