On Oct. 19, the boy’s varsity water polo team played Deerfield for a home game over parents’ weekend. Exeter dominated the entire game, consistently leading and ending with a crushing 21-4 victory.

Dorm communities play a vital role in promoting student well-being at Exeter. Each dorm features a team of faculty, proctors, and student listeners who work to support its students. The Student Listener program, supported by Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS), was started over forty years ago and has grown to be an essential resource for students. Student listeners serve as peer listeners who help students adjust to life at Exeter and provide support for any concerns or struggles they may be going through.

On Friday, Oct. 18, Norbert Chang P’24 P‘27 spoke to Exeter about his experience as an entrepreneur and building a company through failure and success.

One of the most prominent teams on campus, Big Red Football, has undergone major strides within the past few years. A large factor in their improvement is the leadership, including Coach Voulgaris and four dedicated members of the team. Ewan Newton, Isaiah Reese, Thomas Hoey, and Rand Shepard are the captains for the 2024 season by a vote during preseason. Their leadership qualities really shine in practice through their work ethics and communication skills.

Exeter’s 1,104 students are divided into over twenty different dormitories, ranging from houses holding around ten to fifteen people to large, multiple-floor dorms that can house over eighty. Wentworth Hall, located on the south side of Front Street, is one of the latter, boasting four floors and a basement full of amenities for residents to use.

Most students look forward to Spring Break as a time to sunbathe on the beach or sleep in at home. Indoor track athletes are not most students. For several indoor track stars, Spring Break marked an opportunity to run on the nation’s biggest stage — at New Balance Indoor Track Nationals.

On certain mornings and afternoons, a long, skinny red boat can be spotted through the often hazy fog above Exeter’s Squamscott River. The boat seems to glide gracefully over the surface of the rippling river, and the rowers propelling it lean back and forth in elegant unison. On the boat, a series of panting and grunts accompany each pull of the oar. The eight rowers seem to fight for their lives on the water, and at the stern of the boat sits senior Rohit Kantamneni.

On Oct. 28, Exeter’s boys’ junior varsity basketball team played Choate at home, seeking their fifth win of the season. While it was a close game, tied at halftime, Exeter pulled ahead near the end to secure a 73-64 victory.

In 2023, “The Matrix” had a sequel after almost two decades. The hype surrounding the movie was incredible, and expectations were set high. But even after the dwindling success of the second and third Matrix movies, the fourth one ended up being dubbed the worst in the trilogy. You could physically see the difference between the first three and the fourth one, but why did the movie that had two decades of pioneering CGI and special effects get beaten by its predecessor?

The Regeneron Science Talent Search is America’s oldest and most prestigious science competition for high school students. With 13 Nobel prizes in the alumni, students compete for over $3.1 million in research grants. Last year, Achyuta Rajaram ’24, Alan Bu ’24, and Riya Tyagi ’24 all placed and won awards in this prestigious competition. This year, senior Davido Zhang was named a finalist.

Whether leading poetry in Latin and Greek in the classroom, hustling on the varsity football and baseball fields, making case theory in Mock Trial, or pleasing everyone with his singing, senior Caspar Bailey is an important figure on campus.

Following elections last year, a new Exeter Student Council was chosen. With a new school year comes a new slate of issues to discuss among the student body, including potentially controversial changes to the dress code. The new executive board is shaping up to be a productive one with a variety of new policies, events, and reforms.

The gun fires as sprinters rush off the blocks, their spikes piercing through the track, as the scores begin reading off the screen. A sea of red cheers them on, as records are broken and PRs set. This is the largest team on campus: indoor track.

Well into the first full week of academic classes, on Sept. 12, Dean of Students Ashley Taylor sent out an email announcement advising the Academy community to take precautions for the mosquito-borne viral illness EEE (Eastern Equine Encephalitis).
