The earlier half of 2024 was a blessing to modern music fans, with multiple hit albums from popular artists such as Charlie XCX and Sabrina Carpenter. In comparison, the latter half of the year was relatively peaceful, with a lack of industry-shaking events. That was until the unexpected release of “Thick of It,” from JJ Olatunji (publicly known as the YouTuber KSI), shocked his own community and innocent music fans who had yet to be exposed to his music.

Exeter’s 1,104 students are divided into over twenty different dormitories, ranging from houses holding around ten to fifteen people to large, multiple-floor dorms that can house over eighty. Wentworth Hall, located on the south side of Front Street, is one of the latter, boasting four floors and a basement full of amenities for residents to use.

If you frequent Exeter’s network of footpaths, you may have noticed that the Academy seems to have its very own Thor. Red hair, piercing blue eyes, and a resemblance to Chris Hemsworth often lend this impression to Instructor in Health and Human Development (HHD) Mack Kraines. Kraines has served as a member of the Health Department for two years, having taught at Exeter Summer for an additional four. For those who spend a lot of time on the soccer field or tennis court, “Coach” might be another epithet he’s known by, as he mentors players on both the JV soccer and JV tennis teams. Though his time at Exeter has just begun, Kraines has already managed to have a strong positive impact on his team members, students, and the Exeter community at large.

On Sunday, Mar. 30, at 7:49 p.m, an incident involving Silly Spray occurred on 10 Spring St, in close proximity to the PEA campus. The offenders, driving by in a passing vehicle, sprayed Silly String at pedestrian students and were then reported to the Exeter Police Department. Although only one case was reported to Phillips Exeter Academy Campus Safety and law enforcement, further investigation by The Exonian indicates that there were multiple accounts of this activity against PEA students on the same night. As an investigation is still underway, the exact details of the incident remain uncertain.

I can’t have been the only one griping about having to attend a play the very first week we were back from break. Two weeks ago, I walked into Goel having involuntarily sacrificed my entire Friday evening to see a screening of the play Now That We’re Men — my other option was getting one step closer to restrictions in the very first week of spring term.

The time? Just over a week ago. The place? A Colonial Revival ranch house in the middle of Los Angeles.

A decade ago, it would have been ridiculous to suggest that a foreign nation’s video-sharing app would become one of the world’s most prominent social media platforms, going toe-to-toe with tech giants Meta and Google in the United States. But TikTok, pioneered by Chinese company ByteDance Ltd., emerged onto the scene in 2016 and took the world by storm.

“The golden age of America begins right now.” On January 20, President-elect Donald J. Trump gave his inaugural address inside the Capitol Rotunda, the speech having been moved there on account of inclement weather. He expressed his dissatisfaction with the way the United States had been run for the past four years, chiefly at how it “refuses to defend American borders, or more importantly, its own people.”

Meditation, college applications, and a healthy sleep schedule are three words not often used together. Senior fall seems to be the epitome of Exeter’s busy schedule. As the term comes to an end, early decision applications are almost due, and hundreds of college essays are being written on campus.

Clubs at Exeter are a critical part of extracurricular life, spanning a range of topics that seem to cater to everything a student could possibly be interested in. Students, especially new ones, can easily be overwhelmed by the amount of options, which is where Club Night comes in. An annual event near the beginning of the school year, every club in the school congregates with booths, decorations, candy, and other items, all to display their club to the rest of the school, recruiting new members as they pass.

The cold bite of the hockey rink isn’t for everyone. Clashing sticks, gritted teeth, and flying flecks of frost are a staple of the game — if you can’t get with the program, step out of the skates. But for Big Red’s boys’ and girls’ hockey teams, however, the ice is second nature, and they’ve got the power, finesse, and ferocity to prove it. Over a season spanning nearly four full months, both teams developed their skills and strength in daily practices, putting them to the test in 29 games for the boys and 25 for the girls. With the boys and girls boasting 13 and 14 wins on the end-of-season tally, there’s certainly cause for celebration. But their success was hard-won – Exeter hockey is able to rest on their laurels thanks to the effort put in by every team member on and off the ice.

If you know him by appearance, he’s the guy who’ll never be caught without his signature FILA jacket, often carrying a squash racket and, most recently during this past fall term, sporting a full head of frizzy, permed hair. If by name, “Davido Zhang” brings to mind the heavily decorated mathematician, computer scientist, and cello player extraordinaire. But as his peers and teachers have come to discover over the course of his four years at Phillips Exeter Academy, to truly know Davido Zhang is to have in one’s company more than someone who’s earned countless academic accolades.
